HOAGY CARMICHEL nasceu em Bloomington, estado de Indiana, em 22 de novembro de 1899, filho de Clyde Carmichael (de descendência escocesa) e Lida Mary Robinson, falecendo aos 82 anos em 27 de dezembro de 1981 no Centro Médico Eisenhower de Rancho Mirage, estado da California, sendo enterrado no Rose Hill Cemetery de sua terra natal.
Foi pianista, cantor e ator de cinema, mas seu grande trabalho vinculou-se à composição com mais de 200 canções, algumas com letra do próprio e muitas delas com parceiros da mais alta qualidade.
A relação seguinte, parcial, mostra o trabalho de CARMICHAEL em anos seguidos desde 1925 e até praticamente seu falecimento.
