PREMIOS DA JJA - JAZZ JOURNALISTS ASSOCIATION - VERSÃO 2006 ANUNCIADOS ONTEM

A Associação dos Jornalistas de Jazz, americana, anunciou ontem os vencedores na sua tradicional premiação anual, com destaque para as honrarias recebidas por Sonny Rollins e Roy Haines.

Essa associação, que congrega escritores, executantes (no original, broadcasters) em rádio ou tevê, fotógrafos e profissionais de mídia e notícias dedicados ou relacionadas ao jazz no mundo todo promoveu seu Décimo Prêmio Anual, homenageando musicos de jazz e os aficionados nesta segunda feira, 19 de junho, no B.B. King's Blues Club and Grill, em Nova Iorque. O evento contou com apresentações musicais de: Dewey Redman Ensemble; Sy Johnson Quartet, acompanhado do saxofonista Craig Handy; T.C. III, vencedor da competição vocal "Jazzmobile Vocal Competition" promovida pela Anheuser-Busch (leia-se cerveja Michelob) e pelo pianista Ezra Weiss, que apresentou sua composição "Winter Machine", vencedora do "ASCAP Young Jazz Composers Award", com o trompetista Michael Phillip Mossman, o saxofonista-alto Antonio Hart, o saxofonista-tenor Kelly Roberg e o baixista Corcoran Holt.

Mais de 400 membros da JJA votaram nos prêmios, concedidos em 41 categorias de realizações. A The JJA também agraciou com o prêmio "A Team" a defensores, entusiastas, doadores e patrocinadores do jazz como forma de arte. Dentre os patrocinadores agraciados com o prêmio de 2006 estavam as seguintes entidades: Anheuser-Busch, ASCAP, BET J, Concord Music Group, Mack Avenue Records, Steinway Pianos, o Sr. George Wein e a estação WBGO-FM, entre outros.
